Scholarships for Ireland
Irish universities offer partial tuition scholarships for international students, usually based on academic merit. The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship is competitive and has limited places.
Scholarship availability depends on the university, programme, your academic profile and the intake.
Study Visa, Work Rights and Stamp 1G
After accepting your offer and paying tuition, you apply for an Irish study visa with proof of funds and your documents. On arrival you register for an Irish Residence Permit (Stamp 2). Students can usually work up to 20 hours a week during term and up to 40 hours a week in holiday periods (June–September and 15 December–15 January).
Stamp 1G: graduates can stay to look for work for 12 months after a Level 8 degree, or up to 24 months after a Level 9 (master’s) or higher, according to Irish Immigration.
Requirements can change. Eligibility should be checked against current university and official Irish immigration requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I study in Ireland without IELTS?
Some Irish universities accept PTE Academic or TOEFL instead of IELTS, and a few may consider other evidence of English. Most students still need an approved test score, depending on the university and course.
How much does it cost to study in Ireland?
Tuition is roughly €10,000–25,000 a year for a bachelor’s degree and €10,000–30,000 for a one-year master’s. For the visa you must show access to €10,000 for a one-year course, and real living costs — especially in Dublin — are often higher.
Which intake should I choose for Ireland?
September is the main intake and has almost all courses. January or February starts are limited, so September is usually the best choice if your documents will be ready.
Can I work while studying in Ireland?
Students with Stamp 2 permission can usually work up to 20 hours a week during term and up to 40 hours a week in the official holiday periods.
How long can I stay in Ireland after my degree?
Under the Third Level Graduate Programme (Stamp 1G) you can stay 12 months after a Level 8 degree, or up to 24 months after a Level 9 master’s or higher. Rules can change, so check the current guidance.
Can I apply with a study gap?
Yes, if the gap is explained clearly, for example with work experience. How a gap is viewed depends on the university and the visa assessment.
