Undergraduate & Postgraduate Options in the UK
Undergraduate: most bachelor’s degrees in England take 3 years (4 years in Scotland). You apply through UCAS, usually with your Class 12 results. Some courses need a one-year foundation programme first, depending on your marks and board.
Postgraduate: most taught master’s degrees take one year (about 12 months). You apply directly to each university with your bachelor’s degree, SOP, references and English test score. Some courses also look for work experience.
UK Intakes — September and January

| January | Jan–Feb | Fewer courses, but useful if you miss September or are finishing exams. |
| May | Apr–May | Offered by a small number of universities for selected courses. |

| Tuition — master’s (1 year) | £16,000–£35,000 |

Scholarships for UK Study
Most UK scholarships for Indian students come from the universities themselves — usually a partial tuition discount based on your academic record. Government-funded options such as Chevening (for master’s students with work experience) and GREAT Scholarships are competitive and have their own deadlines.
Scholarship availability depends on the university, programme, your academic profile and the intake. Applying early for September usually gives you more options.
IELTS & English Requirements for UK Universities
Most UK universities ask for IELTS Academic, typically 6.0–6.5 overall for undergraduate courses and 6.5 (with no band below 5.5–6.0) for many master’s courses. Some also accept PTE Academic, TOEFL or other tests, and a few may consider strong Class 12 English marks. Pre-sessional English courses can help if you are slightly below the requirement.
RK Global offers IELTS coaching in Jabalpur and Indore if you need to improve your score.
Application Process & CAS
- Shortlist courses and universities that match your marks and budget.
- Apply — through UCAS for undergraduate, or directly to universities for postgraduate.
- Receive a conditional or unconditional offer.
- Meet the conditions (final marks, English score) and pay the tuition deposit.
- Get your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) from the university — you need it for the Student visa.
UK Student Visa & the Graduate Route
With your CAS you apply for the UK Student visa online and attend a biometrics appointment. You will need to show tuition fees and maintenance funds held for at least 28 consecutive days, pay the visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge, and meet the English requirement. Degree-level students can usually work up to 20 hours a week during term.
Graduate Route: after completing your degree you can apply to stay and work — 2 years if you apply on or before 31 December 2026, or 18 months if you apply on or after 1 January 2027 (3 years after a PhD), according to GOV.UK.
Requirements can change. Eligibility should be checked against current university and official UK immigration requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I study in the UK without IELTS?
Some UK universities accept other English tests (such as PTE or TOEFL) and a few may consider strong Class 12 English marks, but this depends on the university and course. Many students still need an approved test score, so check each course before applying.
How much does it cost to study in the UK?
Tuition is roughly £15,000–£30,000 a year for a bachelor’s degree and £16,000–£35,000 for a one-year master’s. For the visa you must also show living costs of £1,529 a month in London or £1,171 a month elsewhere, for up to 9 months. Actual costs depend on the university, city and lifestyle.
Which intake should I choose — September or January?
September has the most courses and scholarships. January is a good option if you miss September or are waiting for results. The right intake depends on your course and when your documents will be ready.
Can I apply with a study gap?
Yes, many universities accept students with a gap if it is explained clearly, for example with work experience or preparation for exams. How a gap is viewed depends on the university and course.
How early should I apply for the UK?
Ideally 9–12 months before your intake. That gives time for English tests, applications, scholarships, your CAS and the visa.
How long can I stay in the UK after my degree?
Under the Graduate Route you can stay 2 years if you apply on or before 31 December 2026, or 18 months if you apply on or after 1 January 2027 (3 years after a PhD). Rules can change, so check GOV.UK before you apply.
